Thanks for the tip.  Does anyone out there re-bush the Hand car chassis???  I don't 
recall any mention of this repair.

Seems like many years ago I did one by unsoldering the worm from the 
armature shaft, and used a short section of K&S brass tubing the 
right diameter that would just slip over the shaft.  I used a small 
needle file to enlarge the area for the tube, filing downward so that 
the mesh of the worm and the gear was correct.
