Yo: My layout is in an area that is 22' x 22', main line is 250', I use 12 awg stranded wire as a power buss with wire drops solder from each rail to the power buss. The wire drops are 18 awg, and in some cases like the yard they are 20 awg.
I run DCC with a 10 amp Northcoast for most of the mainline and a 8 amp Chief for reversing loops off the mainline and my yards. No power lose anywhere.
