OK, Time for the museum curator to step in!
The General has been under "preservaton ownership" for many, many decades. I
believe since shortly after the civil war, although much of that time was as
a "relic" of the railroad that owned her.
So, my question is; How did this guy get this piece? Is it likely to be
stolen (even if not by him), or likely to be an early replica?
I don't have any of the answers, but you can see that IF it is stolen, then
the current owner should return it--IMHO. I doubt the current possessor has
much money tied up in it, certainly nothing near the opening bid!
