I am new to American Flyer train collecting and have many questions?
What year did American Flyer switch from die-cast boxcar frames to
metal boxcar frames and what was the first boxcar to have a metal
frame? I received a AF set for Christmas between 1946 and 1948. I
remember it had a die-cast 4-4-2, die-cast log car and a 630 Reading
caboose. I do not remember the set having any other freight cars. It
had a square metal transformer. You removed the boiler front to
replace the headlight. All the catalogs I see have a 4-4-2 set with
two freight cars and a caboose. Did they ever manufactured a set with
just a log car and a caboose? Thanks for your help.
