My guess, and it is a guess, is that the big changes since the original
Flyer instructions were written, are advances in the way abrasives are
bonded, be it to blocks or paper.  Did they have good #600 sandpaper back
then?

Those emery boards that were included in the service kits are brutal.  i
once fixed a double motor diesel in which 5 of the 6 commutator leads had
been broken by too zealous use of an emery board.  The abrasives were way
too coarse, just as fine sandpaper is too coarse for cleaning rail.

Of course, in those days, if you sanded through your rail tops or trashed
your armatures, hey, Gilbert would be glad to sell you more!
