Scott, & everyone,
My first suggestion is to take all the armor-all that you have and ship
it to Saddim--or to your ex ____ (fill in blank, wife, mother in law,
etc.). Yes, I do NOT like the stuff. IMHO, it does bad things to many items,
including piano keytops. It contains silicones which act as stress-release
agents and encourage cracking of plastics along molding stress lines. Since
most AF stuff is plastic, and some of the plastic is already known to crack
at stress lines, it's not a good thing to have around. Also, if you ever
paint/repaint your stuff, the silicone will give you fits!
    Um, now what was the original question?? . . . . ;-)
Oh yes, "Kremlin" paste, was a joke/pun referring to the Caig Labs
"Cremoilin" paste some of us use for contact lubricant. Very good stuff, but
if you didn't get in on Chris' very generous order frenzy, it's almost
"unobtainium" -- at least at affordable levels for the casual hobbyist.
As for 'shining" up AF plastic, most all of it was a satin finish
originally, except the link coupler period molded-in-color cars. If you want
them to look shiny, I would use something like Mequire's No. 7 glazing
polish, but be aware that it WILL wipe off lettering! I usually only give my
stuff a careful bathing with warm water and a mild detergent, and careful
drying afterwards. Being gentle is important here! I have seen a rag
dampened with WD-40 used to polish wheels, switch bases, etc. Seemed to work
pretty good.
Metal parts, depends on the finish, most of the metal finishes are
either black oxide or plated with "a silvery metal" (that should cover a lot
of possibilities! Heh Heh).
I'll let others describe their "secret formulas" now.
