Don't bet.

I had a long chat with the Lionel Flyer guy (I taught him the word
"Flyonel"!). The steam engine will be out in 2003 if they have to move
heaven and earth to do it, according to him. It will be a mid-sized engine,
(he would not tell me the exact one), never before produced in diecast S,
and it will have a choice of two levels of TMCC. Multiple road names will
be available and separately applied piping and other details will be used to
make it very scale. We discussed the possibility of optional scale contour
drivers.

BTW, I handled the new Moe & Joe lumber car. Very nice design, uses 2
solenoids to prevent jamming. They put it on an 0 car as well. In fact,
many S paint jobs are appearing on 0 cars. I just saw their new Penn Salt 0
gauge tanker.

The crane and work caboose are well detailed. The prototype mockups did not
have all the features, but real spoked side wheels are in the works.

I didn't see a Baldwin there, but I was told that the new Baldwin is NOT the
old Baldwin. No more screw. Scale like details. Windshield, diecast
chassis, new trucks and reliable motor.

Some cars in the new line will be out in July, the rest in November. The
steamer is promised for Christmas.

K-Line, on the other hand, is making no promises. If this line of freights
sells out, they will most likely paint up another batch.

Speaking of sell-outs, the Rick Island Geep and the NYC PA set from last
year sold out completely. Lionel is now excited about Flyer.
