Looks to me like the boxcars are possibly oversize but obviously not full 1/48 scale (where a 40' boxcar = 10" long) and were photographed on SHS trucks. Wish someone with access would measure one for us.
I still think K-Line getting S product out at that price may be a boon to the hobby. It certainly offers a less expensive way to get more "bullet proof" starter sets into the market and interest some youngsters, assuming they go that far. Whether these cars are scale or not is irrelevant- scalers will either adapt parts or not as they see fit. That's not the market for these.
