This is the kind of information that is really helpful to many folks, thanks for sharing it. I have done 2 SIT rebuild and this descripton closely matches my experience. My only question is the use of "Elmer's" glue. After Elmer's hardens, isn't it pretty stiff? I'm not sure if it would retain flexibility without seperating. Also, Elmer's is a waterbase glue that will soften again if wetted by water. I'm not sure how smoke fluid effects it.
I have used "Goop Marine Contact Adhesive and Sealant" with excellent results. It states on the tube that it is wateroproof and flexible.
