I wanted to take a time out to express my appreciation to many of you that have answered my questions to date or in general provided excellent guidance for this relative newbie. I didn't jot down all your names (maybe I should in the future) so my apolgies if I didn't call you by name below.
First and foremost I want to thank Tom Jarcho for his input on my #19B transformer issue. Tom, the problem was just like you said it might be--a loose internal part, a 15 minute fix. I am so relieved! As for my layout plan, Charlie, my new bud just up the road, suggested I buy a track crossing to add some interest. I did just that (no, I wasn't one of the nuts that recently paid--what was it-- $40 on e-bay?). This became the springboard for my layout plan. I ended up using one of the plans in the AF Model Railroad Handbook (page 8, row 2, middle one), expanded it a bit and added some sidings. A few of you recently answered a few of my questions before I could ask them, e.g. car axle lubrication (Chuck F.) and where to get repro AF roadbed (a few of you, I believe). Good info! I also received some good feedback on cleaning roadbed (worked like a charm) and repainting my 290 (I would say that project is down the road). I'm still watching responses to my nailing track/roadbed posting from yesterday. Thanks to those of you who have responded so far. I'm taking notes! This is a great list--the wealth of info you all have amazes me. I'm sure glad I "found" you.
