Gilbert instruction sheets concerning automatic circuits were scanty at best.

The 761 semaphore can stop trains or just serve as a show  piece.  It can
be activated by a #697 trip, a #670 trip, two push buttons, a Flyer switch
controller,  optical detectors,  current detectors,   or a combination of
several of these.  It can be wired to a flyer switch, and serve as a sort
of latching relay.  Two or more semaphores can be wired in tandem; they can
even be cross wired so that when one goes up the other goes down.  Some of
the more sophisticated solid state detectors can control the length of the
current burst they produce  to protect the solenoids, or the white wire can
control a 4 pole relay that cuts off power to the solenoids after the
semaphore is thrown.   A relay or relays controlled by the white wire can
power and unpower a series of stop sections, or initiate an action
sequence.  You can probably build a completely protected multiple train
loop using three or more, but I haven't tried that yet.  It can even be
wired backwards and produce a burst of fixed voltage out the white wire, if
you like jackrabbit starts.
