If the mares are too frisky going 'round with one `AA' cell prodding
them, then insert in the lead from the positive termianl on the cell
a diode of the 1/2 A variety (from Rad Shack). The unbanded end of
the diode connects to the cell and the banded end to the Amusement
Park ride. This gives about .6 V drop and leaves the model ride with
about .9 V for power.
