I put up a preliminary patch at http://trac.sagemath.org/sage_trac/ticket/2816 The patch there depends on the patch at: http://trac.sagemath.org/sage_trac/ticket/3654 I'll work on the documentation later. I'm very interested in feedback about the function names, though.
