See, this is exactly such a problem that back then was not properly
diagnosed and could potentially let someone to conclude that "Sage is
crap". One can easily make this "mistake" by accident and we should
attempt our best so that any computation involving Maxima should be
constant in time regardless of how many times such a computation is
run.
