I think this might have some commonality with several other projects - the Sage cookbook, which wdj et al. did, and has since not (?) been updated much, and the other project (Sage tutorials? something like that, but I can't find it on the wiki right now) which already had some significant content. Perhaps all these things should be coordinated/merged/aware of each other.
