I tried a 64-bit build of Sage on a Sun Blade 2000 SPARC workstation running Solaris 10. I don't know if linbox is only looking for GMP in /usr and /usr/local, which is semi-implied below. But for whatever reason, it decides it can't find a suitable GMP.

 checking size of int... 4
 checking for long... yes
 checking size of long... 8
 checking for long long... yes
checking size of long long... 8
 checking for __int64... no
 checking size of __int64... 0
checking whether byte ordering is bigendian... yes
 Default path = /usr /usr/local
checking whether to compile the drivers... no
checking for GMP >= 3.1.1... problem
Sorry, your GMP version is too old. Disabling.
 *******************************************************************************
  ERROR: GMP not found!

I did not create a new ticket for this, but just added it as a comment to

http://trac.sagemath.org/sage_trac/ticket/7026

as I obeserved the same failure if trying to use the Sun compiler (in that case 32-bit mode).

So linbox has some issues on Solaris 10.
