As a quick datapoint, I was able to build sage-4.3.1.rc0 just fine on an IA64 with: Welcome to SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 SP1 (ia64) - Kernel \r (\l). I used this gcc: sage subshell$ gcc -v Using built-in specs.
