Release plan for Sage 4.4:

Try to merge a few more tickets; the candidates now are

  #6245: make a custom infix operator decorator
  #8411: Branching rule fix and doc revision
  #8500: Add the set of TransitiveGroups
  #8713: Prepare the ground for moving Parent._an_element_ to
Sets().ParentMethods

Perhaps try to merge a few spkg's, like:

  #8700: the libpng-1.2.35.p0 in sage-4.4.alpha0 contains an extra
copy of libpng-1.2.35!

This one still needs review, but it should be easy to review and merge.

Other candidates for merging are

  #4793: Update lcalc to the new upstream 1.23 [with spkg]
  #6456: Upgrade cvxopt in sage from 0.9 to 1.1.2
  #8301: segfault in m4ri
  #8477: Force GNU make to build PALP serially
  #8605: upgrade SageTeX spkg to 2.2.5
  #8192: Update PolyBoRi to newest upstream release
  #8453: Update PARI to 2.3.5
  #8644: update pynac to 0.1.12

I tried merging all of these spkg's (at once) into 4.4.alpha1 on
sage.math and ran into terrible problems; merging just the first five
of them led to various problems on various skynet machines. So the
list will likely be much smaller than this. It may even be empty.

--------------------------------

Known issues:

#8732: bug in new HMM code. This is a blocker. Please review it.

Problems building cddlib on either a mixed-platform Fedora 10 machine
(64- bit machine in a 32-bit NFS environment) or on t2.math (Solaris).
 There is a new spkg available which might fix this, but it needs
review:

  <http://trac.sagemath.org/sage_trac/ticket/8730>

This seems to fix my build problem on t2.math, but (with apologies to
the author), it looks like a rather dangerous hack.

--------------------------------

Please test and report all other issues.

--------------------------------

Closed tickets:

#6927: Extend CachedFunction to handle disk-cache
#8414: lattice -> domain in weyl_groups.py
#8488: Add support for @interact to the Sage library and module for a
library of interacts
#8493: Complex conjugation in Galois groups
#8496: Implement canonical heights for elliptic curves over number fields
#8505: random points on elliptic curve misses half the group
#8524: DisjointUnionEnumeratedSets should have a private __classcall__ method
#8557: is_singular method for projective plane curves
#8574: Length of a finite word defined by an iterator is broken
#8585: PermutationGroup and SymmetricGroup on the empty set
#8649: to_tableau method broken for crystals of type B
#8653: Command-line "advanced" help has wrong option name for randomized tests
#8669: interrupting download in sage-spkg should delete the spkg file
#8695: UniqueRepresentations implements __eq__ but not __ne__
#8705: Add sage_unittest to the reference manual
#8706: sage-4.4.alpha0: numerical noise in chmm.pyx
#8707: view(x) calls x._latex_() 5 times!
#8709: polyhedra level set doctest failure
#8711: fix warnings when building the ref manual (4.4.alpha0)

Share and Enjoy.
