There was a post here the other day of someone who run into problems with Sage's zlib being too old on his MacbookPro running Ubuntu 10.04 (64
bit).

http://groups.google.com/group/sage-devel/browse_thread/thread/525f84daa3513bc/df71738fbc80fda5?hl=en&lnk=gst&q=update+libz#df71738fbc80fda5

I've created a new package for this, which has the latest stable upstream code.

http://trac.sagemath.org/sage_trac/ticket/9008

but it needs review.

It has been tested on

* MacbookPro running Ubuntu 10.04 (64
bit).
* sage.math
* bsd.math
* OpenSolaris x64
* Solaris (SPARC)

The comments at the start of the ticket the addtion of -fPIC are not relevant, as that gets added in the current source code.

Is there any chance of someone reviewing it.

zlib is the first package to fail on an OpenSolaris build, though it does not appear that it fails, as it builds as 32-bit, but that is no use later.
