Though let's be clear that the downside is there.  For instance, there
is also the socio impact - one of the (supposed) advantages of open
source is that it can run on a wider spectrum of hardware, esp. lower
end and older ones.  It would be nice for Sage to do this as much as
possible.

I think the real problem is that we never knew whether Linux PPC was
supported or not!  The notion of 'official support' has evolved
considerably over the last year, thanks largely to the efforts of Dave
K. - mostly in good ways, I'd say.
