Actually, I get the same thing: when connected to aleph.sagemath.org through my phone's browser, there's a button to toggle plantext input, and if it is in the correct setting, then 1+1 evaluates to 2, but otherwise it returns an error for me. The setting that gives the error is the one where the input lines are numbered in a grey column to the left of the text input box. I have the 'Use "Sage Mode"' check box checked. When I click on the Evaluate button, it says:
