Something in our OSX 10.4 build uses the reference blas instead of the accelerate framework. See http://trac.sagemath.org/10508 for some heroic efforts by Karl-Dieter to debug this by word of mouth, but thats just not sustainable. We either need shell access for Sage developers to a OSX 10.4 machine or remove it from the first-tier supported platforms.
