I sort of agree in principle, but this is easier said than done. In many cases, the mathematics is hard (certainly too hard for me to understand what is going on). Second, in some cases, heuristic algorithms are used which may work with one version but fail with a different version. Since the algorithms are heuristic, this should not be considered a bug.

Then there is also the issue that doctests serve both as documentation and tests. So we should not forget that the documentation must remain understandable.
