Working on an i686 machine running under Gentoo Linux, I tried to upgrade SAGE from 2.8.2 to 2.8.3 by using the command "sage -upgrade". The resulting messages ended as follows: Finished extraction sage: After decompressing the directory gmp-4.2.1.p8 does not exist This means that the corresponding .spkg needs to be downloaded again. http://www.sagemath.org//packages/optional/gmp-4.2.1.p8.spkg --> gmp-4.2.1.p8.spkg [.] http://www.sagemath.org//packages/standard/gmp-4.2.1.p8.spkg --> gmp-4.2.1.p8.spkg [.] http://www.sagemath.org//packages/experimental/gmp-4.2.1.p8.spkg --> gmp-4.2.1.p8.spkg [.] http://www.sagemath.org//packages/archive/gmp-4.2.1.p8.spkg --> gmp-4.2.1.p8.spkg [.] Unable to download gmp-4.2.1.p8 Please see http://www.sagemath.org//packages for a list of valid packages /usr/local/sage-2.8.2-debian32-i686-Linux/spkg/build bunzip2: Can't open input file gmp-4.2.1.p8.spkg: No such file or directory. tar: gmp-4.2.1.p8.spkg: Cannot open: No such file or directory tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now Second download resulted in a corrupted package. make: *** [installed/gmp-4.2.1.p8] Error 1
I had a similar experience on a 64 bit machine. Now when SAGE starts it says it's Version 2.8.3, Release Date: 2007-08-31. Thus the update had some effect. Yet I don't know what to do about the error messages reported above. John -- John P.
