If a source compile, did you check that your build completed properly? If you are in a hurry, try the PPA: https://launchpad.net/~aims/+archive/sagemath It is not specifically meant to work with the python-ldap stuff though. I thought these were supposed to come with Sage, but do you have python-openssl and python-crypto installed?
