The regal Queen Neherenia speaks to her servant Zirconia through an
ornate full-length mirror. She says that the dream mirror that contains
the winged unicorn will be a golden color, since the power of the
creature comes from the Golden Crystal. Find the golden dream mirror
and they will find their quarry. Zirconia appologizes for the constant
failures of the Amazon Trio, and swears that the Amazoness Quartet will
succeed where they failed. "See that they do!", she tells Zirconia, and
her image in the mirror fades, to be replaced by Zirconia's reflection.

At the Crown Game Center, Reenie and her classmate from Harbour
Elementary, Melissa, are watching Andrew tack up a poster promoting the
arrival of a traveling circus from the Amazon - The Dead Moon Circus.
As the BGM plays "Melt With You" by Modern English, Serena and Darien
also arrive at the arcade, to greet and converse with Reenie's little
friend from the elementary school. Melissa watches in amusement as
Reenie and Serena once again vie for Darien's attention.

The humorous comotion catches the attention of two young women who were
playing billiards nearby. In observing, they comment to eachother that
purity can be found in the dreams of innocent children. One of them
answers her pager and the two leave the arcade, reciting a curious
rhyme...

"Dreams, dreams of chil-dren
Can ne-ver be sus-pi-cious
Dreams, dreams of chil-dren
Are key to a-no-ther world"

And back at the Dead Moon Circus, the freaks and strange preformers are
all reciting this rhyme. And as the two young women who left the arcade
enter the circus tent, they transform back into Ceres, the trapeze
artist, and Vesta, the equestrian. They then rejoin the other half of
the Amazoness Quartet - Juno, the high-wire artist, and Pallas, the
magician/juggler. And with the entire circus reciting this rhyme,
Zirconia finally has to come out and tell them all to be quiet.
Zirconia then calls the Quartet to stand before her. The Quartet starts
in with an attitude of "Who died and made you the boss of me?!" It
seems the Quartet don't think as well of Zirconia as the Trio used to.
Insults are exchanged, and a sudden fight breaks out between the Quartet
and Zirconia. The fight is over quickly, as Zirconia sends the Quartet
against the back wall with the merest exertion of her powers. With the
rebelious Quartet put in their place, Zirconia assigns them their first
target. Vesta recognizes the girl in the picture as Melissa, whom she
saw at the arcade.

The next day, Vesta is on the sidewalk in front of Harbour Elementary
passing out tickets to the Dead Moon Circus to all the children,
especially Melissa and Reenie, who get a whole book of tickets so that
her other friends [the Sailor Scouts] can go.

All the girls, including Melissa, Alex, Michelle, and Tara, arrive on
the date of the show and marvel at the sights of the sprawling sideshow
area and the great circus tent. Reenie is especially pleased that her
two friends Melissa and Tara are also becoming friends with eachother.
None of them notice that Melissa is being observed by the Quartet.

The circus starts the preformances under the big top, and there are lots
of acts, and the audience is enjoying themselves, in spite of the fact
that the whole circus has an odd, creepy atmosphere to it, like the
sinister carnival in the movie, "Something Wicked This Way Comes". The
ringmaster looks like the oily little master-of-ceremonies from the
movie "Mad Max - Beyond Thunderdome". The troop of clowns enter in the
icecream van SweetTooth, with Needles Kane behind the wheel [if you are
familiar with the video game "Twisted Metal 3", you recognize these
names] And as a musical interlude, the ringmaster introduces the
preformance of none other than Shaggy and Violent Jay - THE INSANE CLOWN
POSSE! - who do their latest rap hit. The audience is rocking out to
the beat, and there is even the squirting of Orange Faygo as is
customary at an ICP show. Mina is also enjoying the show, but is rather
chagrined at the appropriateness of a rap act at a circus. Her comment
of how they could get away with that invokes a response from a clown
standing right next to her, who smiles directly at her with the comment,
"Don't you know that a clown can get away with murder?" That's when we
recognize that the clown is being played by Brian Dennehy, wearing the
same clown makeup he used when he played mass murderer John Wayne Gaysie
in the made-for-TV movie where he used that exact line.

Later, Pallas - billed as "The Queen of Clowns" - cavorts in the
audience, and makes a bouquet of flowers appear, which she gives to
Melissa. Melissa drinks in the scent of the flowers, and her eyes seem
to glaze over. In a trance, she wanders out of the big top. Reenie,
concerned, starts to follow her, with the other girls in tow.

Melissa awakens outside the big top in the deserted midway, not knowing
how she got there. She is confronted by the whole Quartet. As Melissa
tries to run, Vesta makes a red ball appear in front of her and produces
a telescoping pool cue, which she uses to fire the ball into Melissa's
back, making her dream mirror pop out the front.

The Quartet is then interrupted by the arrival of all the Sailor Scouts.
Vesta summons Python Princess, a snake charmer lemure with a gigantic
python. The battle is brief, and the lemure is destroyed with the
Quartet retreating from the scene.

After the battle, as Zirconia makes her report to her mistress, the
Quartet is dressed in towels, being massaged on beds by personal
attendants, as they discuss their first battle with the Sailor Scouts.
That's when Pallas chimes in...

Pallas: I don't know about you, but I wanna talk about sex!

The others look at her like she's suddenly gone nuts...

Ceres: Pallas, what in God's name brought THIS on?!

Pallas: I dunno. We're naked, we're gettin' massaged, I just think we
should be having a really sexually explicit conversation, like those
girls in the sauna in the firstepisodeof "Sisters". OW! OW! CRAMP!
CRAMP IN MY LEG! CRAMP!
