Perhaps you might be able to help in contacting some ex-pupils of Mae De Deus School, also known as Costa's( from Benaulim) school which was located on the Saligao-Sangolda border.
I was around eleven years old in 1942 while attending this school. Even then I remember the Portuguese "primeiro grau" lessons that were learnt under tamarind tree at the rear of the school near the fields. "Eu ama, tu amas, ele ama" etc were the verbs that were taught. We use to go and purchase some "belios" which I presume were the dry version of molasses. Sugarcane was grown then.
I know it was sixty years ago, but surely there must be someone that attended this lovely old school that I could reminisce with by e-mail !!
