SAP can be checked via TCP. In the services file you will find an entry SAPMS<sid> and next to it the TCP port number.

Yes I am running NT/w2k. I have experienced that the database is running, the services is running and _some_ of the work processes is running but the users are not able to login. The best would probably be to check that all work processes is running. In my case that is 13 and SA only allows checking 10. The number of work processes differs from installation to installation depending on your needs. I will se what I can find out also with regards to SNMP and TCP.

If it's SAP on NT you could use the service check for it. Also I suppose knowing what a huge beast SAP is, that it also has an SNMP interface and thus it should be possible to check it via SNMP. Also isn't it possible to check it's TCP port? (if it has any) And another option is to check the SAP-web-interface (if you're using that one).
