The original perl eventlog checker is still out there if you want to work with that and see if it fixes the problem until Dirk gets the new checker built.

It's an issue because we selected WMI to do this.  Remember that is within a free add-on, not within Servers Alive as such.
We can do several things about this:
    * leave it as it is knowing the issues of WMI
    * remove the check from the site due to the problems with WMI
    * re-write it using a different technology.

Currently we'll leave it as it is.  And once v5 is released we will be looking at doing a re-write using a different technology.

Ummm.... but (with the utmost respect) if SA is using WMI and WMI isn't working properly, doesn't that become an issue for SA?

The eventlog check is done using WMI.  Within the WMI query we say "give the entries of the eventlog AFTER eventlog_entry_number", but it sure looks like WMI is not doing this correctly....I'm afraid this is an WMI issue not an SA issue...

[SA-list] External COM check (eventlog) checks whole log every cycle

Hi,

I think this has been brought up before by someone, but I don't think there was an answer. The eventlog check (external com check) appears to check the entire event log on every cycle. As this takes about 10 minutes, and I need to do it on about 25 servers, I've got a problem!

Am I doing something wrong?

Cheers,

Ian
