I can understand the need of this, but this would not be a real test of the alert. For example the alert can have a schedule and/or the person/team too. So testing it "now" is not the same as executing the alert "tomorrow" (or in 2 hours).

Alerts (at least in our environment) go to lots of different groups (ie, different email addresses). It would seem to me that having an individual alert test available for each line item in the SA gui would be a great feature to make sure the email target(s) is configured properly! The test would just "fake" a failure. Maybe event adjust the subject line to include the word "TESTING". Just a thought.
