Re 1., straight off the bat I can't think of a free one BUT I thought (now Microsoft) Visio could do this, and you might be able to come a cross an installed copy of that on someone's PC.

They then present this information to the user in some sort of "pretty" map. This is one thing missing from Salive. Although the idea of an automated scan would seem useful I don't know about the feasibility of changing the entire interface (or adding a second app). 1. My first question is has anyone found a free or cheap automated network mapping application (for Windows). I am considering developing some sort of app myself and don't want to reinvent the wheel. 2. My second question is any chance of integrating something like this into Salive. Notes: My thought is this would help with some of the interface problems being discussed as of late. It may also help to automate some of the adding of check entries etc. Since the network path would be determined dependencies could be created. If a host is responding to pings then the other checks (i.e WMI, HTTP, application) can depend on the ping first. Obviously to not lose functionality some checks/dependincies will need to be allowed to be added/edited manually. Then if this network scan info was stored in a database, xml, documented flat file, whatever was determined, perhaps some of the concerns over usability, the GUI, the host file, reporting, etc could be alleviated. Clearly the monitoring of Server's Alive is second to none and many have been very willing to sacrifice some of these interface features for the SUPERIOR monitoring capabilities of Server's Alive. I would certainly not place a network map (most likely involving a total rewrite of the gui or at least writing an alternative app to create a host file/database) as a high priority. Just wanted to have this possibility considered. Also I want to commend Dirk for listening to the discussion over the last few days and trying to help as best he can. He certainly has more patience than myself. I would have given up and say "live with it" by now. Thank you Dirk for your attentiveness, consideration, and patience. -- Jason Passow Mississippi Welders Supply [EMAIL PROTECTED] ph: (507) 494-5178 fax: (507) 454-8104 "If you do everything right, nobody will realize you've done anything at all."
