Servers Alive can only timeout IF the API calls that are being used (API calls that are part of the operating system) offer a timeout option. And unfortunatly they don't all do that :-(

Servers Alive simply stopped responding. I was able to determine it was a specific server being monitored that caused the problem (by watching Servers Alive run though a cycle, and paying attention to where it stopped). This offending server was partially accessible (file shares could be accessed across the network, but the server would not respond to remote commands). By restarting the Servers Alive server (I couldn’t restart the service because it wouldn’t respond to the stop request), and putting the offending server on maintenance, Servers Alive happily completed its cycle. I have not been able to determine caused the problem on the offending server, nor why Servers Alive simply didn’t time out. If so what did they give as reason for the down? Dirk Bulinckx. From: Servers Alive Discussion List [mailto:sal...@woodstone.nu] On Behalf Of Chris Mang Sent: Tuesday, April 28, 2009 4:10 PM To: Servers Alive Discussion List Subject: [SA-list] Servers Alive service hanging I’m running Servers Alive v 6.2.2279 and I am checking 900 items.¹ Starting on Friday, the web page stopped being generated.¹ Upon logging into the server, I find Servers Alive not responding.¹ The service won’t gracefully stop either.¹ Rebooting the server, everything seems fine.¹ Servers Alive starts fine, and begins checking.¹ After a few minutes, the window stops updating.¹ If I click anywhere in the window, the title bar changes to “Not Responding”. I’ve attempted both a reinstall on top of the existing installation, and a clean uninstall, and complete reinstall.¹ The situation remains, and Servers Alive continues to hang after a few minutes. Any suggestions to help resolve this?
