It seems conclusive from your description of the issue that the error is to do
with the SA code or API it uses.

The error

ERR: [10038] Socket operation on non-socket(25039)

Usually occurs when you create a TCP/IP connection object (which creates a
socket connection) and that object is either destroyed/disconnected or the
de-referenced but then the reference to the object is reused.

Do other ping checks also fail once this happens or only this one?

Hi Mark,

The error is on the actual ping, not on any check that may be dependent on it.

I am able to ping the resource from a command line if SA is kicking out this
error.

Subsequent ping checks report same error once this error is generated once.
Resolution seems to be to restart SA services.

I set all checks to alert on less than 60% response and only if the resource is
down more than 2 times.

This error is reported back if I am checking internal or external resource
using ping check. I understand the If...,Then logic, but I am mostly concerned
as to what this error code means and how to resolve it without having to
restart SA services at all hours.

Thank you,

Paul-

Sorry for all the questions just trying to build a picture of what is
happening:

The error is on the actual ping check and not a any check which may be
dependent on it?

e.g. Is it possible that the ping succeeds as the link is up and the link fails
over after this point?

When the failure occurs can you then ping the ip address from the same box from
command line?

Do subsequent ping checks succeed or fail from SA?

If they succeed it maybe that you just need to change the check to alert when 2
or 3 times down.

Alternatively you could have a check test for link down on primary link using
the inverse check box which does not generate an alarm or sends an alarm only
to tech support (not the client) and have a dependent check to the secondary
link to alert when it is down.

Therefore the logic would be:

If link 1 down check link 2 if down send alert to client.

Even this approach can be problematic if the check occurs during failover there
is scope in which both could say down at the wrong moment which is why a number
of my checks only alert when 2x down.

@Mark Perry

This does not kill SA.

Check is a ping to an external WAN interface on an internet router. I know the
service is not down. I also see this when pinging internal machines as well,
but only if my ISP failover kicks in.

Need more info?

There isn’t enough info here really.

Are you saying that it kills SA?

Are you able to see which check does this?

Subject: [SA-list] 10038 error

I have multiple ISP lines from different vendors coming in to my datacenter.
When I experience a failover from one circuit to another, Servers Alive kicks
out the following error:

(ERR: [10038] Socket operation on non-socket(25039))

A restart of Servers Alive seems to resolve this error.

Why does this occur? I am not always able to restart the services in a timely
manner, as it sometimes happens overnights; This leads to my clients getting
false alerts.

Thank you,
