I need a status (we have now mail and SMS via mail) in the morning that I can
see

- Everything is ok (no check DOWN)

- Some checks are DOWN, together with details

- No status, no breakfast – first go and look what is wrong!

With a status summary like “Summary line AND all Down checks” this could be
possible.

I can choose

- “Summary line only” - that does not give me detailed information

- All Down Entries - I cannot distinguish if everything is ok or SA cannot
send mail

- All Entries - too much lines, not sorted in a way that I can see the
DOWN checks in the first lines for a quick review (and SMS is limited, taking
the first part of the information into some 2 SMS and discarding the rest)

- ?

Mit freundlichen Grüßen

Ralf Minuth

Perhaps you could describe your goals with this alert and someone could suggest
a way to accomplish them. Certainly you could have multiple alerts one that
sends everything at a specified time and one that sends down when they happen
or after 5 minutes of down for example.

I could have a status information that everything is fine. Now I have either
this or "something is wrong so SA cannot send mail", but I cannot know which of
these. Obviously I did not read it correctly from the documentation, thinking
"when to send" and "what entries" are independent.

I am mainly interested in the DOWN entries in the morning, not the others. So I
could have a dummy DOWN check scheduled for this time or send all entries -
almost 1500.

It will send the mail depending on your settings that.
If you say that only the down entries should be on the mail and there are no
down entries then why should it send mail?

Can I read "assuming it had to send" as "it is not sending a summary in some
cases" - for example when no check is down? That could explain the behaviour - I
would have to work around this, because I need a status mail to see SA is
working.

The SMTP logs did not show an attempt, but we can verify this once more with
addressing the Exchange nodes instead of the load balancer.

If the logfile isn't showing an error then it means that their was no
problem is the actual sending (assuming it had to send).
If you have access to the logfile of the SMTP server that is being used, can
you then see an attempt to send a message (from the SA system)?

No entries in the logfile, the summary is scheduled to 5:50:

Dienstag, 9. August 2011 05:40:03 Check cycle starts ( 70- 69)
Dienstag, 9. August 2011 05:52:03 Check cycle starts ( 71- 70)
Dienstag, 9. August 2011 06:07:15 Check cycle starts ( 72- 71)

Nobody was missing alert mails until now, we have now the chance to watch if
both servers show differences, but I would take some days for this.

The recipients are different between alerts and the summary, I was trying a
distribution list (one SMTP address) instead of a comma separated list, no
change.

The status-summary sending is using the same sending functions as the normal
alerts. Do they fail often too?
Does the logfile of SA show any errors in the status summary sending?

Hello,

we have the issue that sending the status summary mail is working or not,
some
50% yes and 50% no, and I cannot see why.

Servers Alive! Version 6.2.2279, as we are in transition from Win 2000 (VM)
to
Win 2003 (hardware) we have 2 different systems, but they both show this
effect.
The configuration (configuration file and registry entries) were transferred
from the old to the new system. The system names and the sender
mail-addresses
are different.

We tried to address our load balancer or the Exchange nodes directly, no
difference. The Exchange admins tell me they cannot recognize anything in
these
cases.
