Thanks Dirk. I was afraid I was missing something the was obvious. When I am on the server that is running SA and open the GUI does this affect the operation of the service in any way. I noticed that I have two instances of the SA.exe running when I do that … one by the service and one directly.

Ok, I got SA to run successfully as a service on Windows 2012 R2 by running it under an account that has administrative rights on the other servers in my domain. Wien running on 2003 it used to work running as a local account but on 2012 R2 it could not check NT services on 2008/2012 servers until the service was running under the administrative account. This was the case even though each of the checks were set to run connect as that administrative account. Anyway, my question is, “What exactly can be done using the remote client from a remote workstation?” I was able to get it installed on my workstation and connect to the SA service on my server but am at a loss as to what, if anything, can actually be done from the workstation.
