One other thing that has happeened recently is that some WINS servers have been shut down. Could this be impacting my ability to talk to the PDC?

After upgrading to 2.2.3a from 2.2.2, we have a strange problem that's happening. When users try to map a drive, it asks for the username/password even though we're using server authenticaiton. There are lots of messages in the log.<machine name> files complaining about not being able to open the passwd database [2002/05/06 09:52:47, 0] passdb/pdb_smbpasswd.c:pdb_getsampwnam(1367) unable to open passdb database. [2002/05/06 09:52:47, 0] passdb/pdb_smbpasswd.c:pdb_getsampwnam(1367) unable to open passdb database. As far as I can tell from perusing the source, this is if you are using the smbpasswd files which we are not. We are using server authentication via a local PDC (win2k PDC, I believe). So why is it trying to hit the smbpasswd file? Any thoughts?
