I looked all over the archives to find an answer to this issue with Samba not loading on my RH7.0 machine.
It turns out that I had deleted the server's name from my /etc/hosts file. I discovered that by tail -f /var/log/samba/log.smb when I saw the "unknown host xxxxxxx", I checked /etc/hosts and volia!
