I did those changes, restarted samba, and tried to connect to \\kolob as you described, but there's no /var/log/samba/log.magaly-pc file produced, or other similar file with matching timestamp. The only relevant changes in that directory are in /var/log/samba/log.nmbd, which has these lines with that Windows client name (plus a few subsequent lines that may be useful):
