The issue was with this line:
socket options = IPTOS_LOWDELAY TCP_NODELAY SO_SNDBUF=4096 SO_RCVBUF=4096
Removing SO_SNDBUF and SO_RCVBUF fixes the issue.
I think this was in the default configuration - or the default for swat. Perhaps it shouldn't be?
Hope this helps anyone else with complaining mac users.
