Wind,

no, the read-only-admin-post it not the problem.

Its the double-opt-in.

User wants to join. He has to do:

- submit a join message
  (per mail or web interface)

he will get a "welcome" mail to the email adress he gave and then

- he has to click on a link in that mail
  or reply via mail

The welcome-message subject/content/url is unique, it contains a special
id, that is only valid for this email adress.

Why such a difficult task? Simple. Otherwise (with single-opt-in) I could
assign you to any mailing list. So a wide abuse is possibility. Normally,
software that can double-opt-in has another "feature of quality".

In case of abuse (if i sign you up) you simple would ignore the invite
message. The list processing robot will not add you onto the list, you will
get no further messages. There is a certain time frame you have to respond,
if you want onto the list (give 7 days or so).

Programming this feature is not very difficult, if you already have the
message routines. Just create a analysing part and a "unique id generator"
(no counter! just random.)
