Hi, I also posted following problem on XP-list, and it is a side subject, although related to my second question, which als concerns sambar installation/start-up.
In an uncontrolled moment I let PHP install itself on my PC (XP). From that moment I'm in trouble, because it installed a server, and took the place of my already for years running Sambar server. While this happened I have been deleting a lot of stuff.... to get this murderess PHP server away (maybe deleted too much ?). PHP might be a good program, i will surely discover, but i dont like implementations of side products that come with programs which unfortunately happened before i realized to install it manually, and be very selective which parts of php to install. Situation now: - my ethernet card says everything is ok. - contact with ISP-cable is working. - the connection (for instance ftp within my local network is working). - email is working normal - When I start the sambar server I can browse my site (from my own PC) using either my ip-number or my domain name. - Dynsite what is taking care of my dynamic ip-address also doesnt report any failures. But now comes the terrible part. Users from outside cant access my server, nor through a browser, nor the ftp-service. (yes in XP the ftp and webservice are on). My question: anyone a solution for this problem. (in this case cant consult ISP). I dont know where to look, with sambar server itself working, with allright connection to ISP, somewhere in my XP-Settings ???????? My second related question concerns the automatic start of programs, and in this case sambar. I like to decide at which moment i want to start particular programs, that includes sambar. But once installed sambar server starts itself after reboot, cant get it otherwise. And it doesnt show that my sambar dir = d:\sambar, no, since recently it tells me that my sambar is in \documents settings\myname (a link to the original?). I'm probably to simple that i want it the simple way, in deciding that i want to start a program at the times i want, and doing that manually, or letting it be done automatically, at start or logon or whatever demands i have. But somehow new programs get so smart, to infect once pc on so many places, and they are fighting for the best accessible place on your compu. (jus see the complaints/annoyance about the influence of XP, and all the trouble one has to go through to delete superfluous programs :=). Can i keep the server start of sambar also controlled, therefore I have to delete.......? Hope havent been too long ....... Greets, Henk Schrik tel.
