Michael,

My guess would be that your upstream provider is using a caching device
(NetCache) that is returning this error to your proxy (Sambar) which in
turn returns it to your client.

Subject: [sambar] Proxy Problem {01}

Hello Sambarians,

We have Sambar set up as a proxy server so that others on our small LAN
can go out on the Internet through a single connection. Every so often,
a user client gets the following message (I struck out the URL), could
some explain please, thanks:

While trying to retrieve the URL: http://
The following error was encountered:

ERROR 201 -- The proxy-cache server does not support the protocol
specified in the URL you requested.

This means that:

NetCache, running as an HTTPD accelerator, does not recognize URLs.
