Ok.. Now I have to put my Security Hat on. :) No Netbeui No Netbios No NULL Session connections
The only secure way to do anything today is with TCP/IP only.. Not wrappers and encapsulaters like Netbios over NetBT.. These have soooooo many security issues. So, TCP/IP only means.. Better have a parallel printer, or a TCP/IP capable printer.. And as for File Sharing, better make sure Netbios is only open on your intranet if your running NT PDC's.. Or you can use the CIFS alternative to netbios.. I believe even the latest Samba for Linux is supporting CIFS.. (Common Internet File System) Enough sucking off of IBM's 1900's protocol designs.. Its time to get into the new millennium. :) Danny On 04/Nov/2002 21:19:49, Jeff Adams wrote: > Actually, the NetBEUI protocol is on the Windows XP CD-ROM - > \ValueAdd\Msft\Net\NetBEUI. > > -Jeff > > At 06:37 PM 11/04/2002 -0600, Tom Faulkner wrote: > > >XP does support NetBEUI, you have to download it from MS's site though. > >And definitely agree on the server class machine. > > > >-----Original Message----- > >From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [HREF="mailto:list.operator@;sambar.ch">mailto:list.operator@;sambar.ch] On Behalf > >Of Dave Culbertson > >Sent: Monday, November 04, 2002 6:03 PM > >To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > >Subject: [sambar] new machines {02} > > > >I would reccommend either NT or Windows 2000 Server.
