Yes. It's a good test, but obviously not for production use.

Test_view is using the same htslib functions that samtools does
so they're basically the same performance (barring any other changes
that have happened between 1.2 and current develop, which I think
should have minimal performance impact).

There isn't a specific schedule, but we're meeting to nail down the
specific feature list for 1.3 next week.  The release will then happen
Soon(TM) after (1 month?).  Over to John for anything more concrete.
