Job Description.

-Position located at Alexandria, VA or Seaside, CA.
-Position is on the DMDC account. The person filling this position will be
an integral part of a close knit, diverse team responsible for technical and
program support for major Department of Defense programs and applications.
-Serve as member of the support team for all matters pertaining to
maintaining and sustaining the DEERS databases.
-Participant in design meetings and provide consultancy/inputs to database
related changes.
-Validate and execute formal change requests - e.g. implement database
changes to a particular database environment; data copy or data refresh.
-Validate and execute routine/ad hoc change requests - e.g. data fixes; ad
hoc queries; grant access to database object.
-Perform regular database maintenance activities - e.g. update schema
statistics, rebuild indexes.
-Participate in System Software Upgrades / Software Patches - e.g. validate
the upgrade; test and exploit new features.
-Provide technical support for software and hardware upgrades.
-Troubleshoot and resolve database-related incidents reported by users or
detected by database monitoring solution.
-Ensure that database availability, reliability, and security expectations
are met and/or exceeded.
-Develop and implement database utility programs - e.g. database monitoring
tools, DBA utilities.
-Validate queries for other parties.

Required experience & skills:

-Minimal 5 years or more information technology experience with an emphasis
on Database Administration.
-Degree/Diploma holder preferably in IT focus.
-Advanced knowledge of Oracle Database administration, Oracle PL/SQL, ad-hoc
queries.
-Basic knowledge of the Unix platforms that the DBMS runs on - Unix for
Oracle
-Demonstrated good analytical and problem-solving skills.
-Well developed written and verbal communication skills.
-Ability to work independently and work flexible hours including occasional
weekends, evenings, holidays as necessary to support the mission.*

-Experience or understanding of RAC
-Experience or understanding of Database Security
-Experience or understanding of Oracle command line interfaces versus GUI
interfaces
-Knowledge of US military organization a plus.
-Knowledge of web Application interfaces
-Advanced knowledge of Windows operating system (client/workstation
(2000/XP) and server (2000/2003).*
