So what Riaz is saying is that atrocities that happen in Bangledesh and Pakistan is no problem?

This is a common criticism from both Israelis who support the Likud Party and Indians who support the BJP.  I find it particularly disturbing that this is supposed to justify the targeting of Muslims.  There are crucial differences between the lack of due process and human rights in Middle Eastern governments and the type of ethnic targeting that Israel and India both seem to enjoy and have bonded over.  Moreover, Hindus choose to live in various parts of the Middle East, and they live quite happily making a good living for themselves.  Though they are not allowed political participation, they do have various civil and social rights and for the most part are allowed to live in peace.  For that matter, countries like Saudi Arabia, Dubai, and Syria don't allow Muslims participate in the political system either.  The same goes for within the Indian sub-continent.  Hindus in Pakistan and Bengladesh, though rare have lived peaceful lives f! ree of the type of violence that the Gujarat BJP government perpetrated against Muslims.  In India in general, the whole Muslim / Hindu divide was for the most part non-existent up until the post-1947 era, and it has gradually becoming more divided since.

>If you read the minutes from our last meeting you would note that one of the issues we are struggling with is the fact that the current coalition we are working with around these issues is focused mainly on India--whereas it is my opinion that communal hate and violence against minorities is a problem that needs to be addressed throughout South Asia. We are currently talking about how we expand our work so it does indeed address the issues of violence against minorities across South Asia. For my part the general premise is that this type of scapegoating and attacks on minorities is deeply wrong--and especially heinous when it is supported by the government in power rather than being condemned.
