Riaz

I think you were being rather reactionary-hostile in your responses. A
list member's forward to a list with the word 'progressive' in it's
name should actually have made you pause and try to understand what the
posting probably meant (unless the list member has a history of being on
the list to subvert and irritate). I think instead of picking on verbage
in the discussions we should question the information provided and try
to work out solutions (how ever small/personal they maybe).

If you note the present mission of SAPAC says that we are against "The
government exploitation and condonement of communal violence and
violence against women in South Asia" isn't that what Neeraja's forward
pointed towards? I felt that she was actually informing and
questioning/requesting that the group should pay attention to what's
happening in other parts of South Asia NOT criticising the group because
she felt that the group was paying attention to an injustice occurring
to Muslims. I've seen such mis-communications happen more than once,
especially when it is on a mailing list it is easy to assume what they
mean and get it wrong.

I agree that the divide in India between the two big religions
(historically, culturally, and other) has increased since independence,
but why and what are the origins of this divide? On a side note this is
disgusting to me personally since India claims to be this secular nation
where increasingly minorities have been ignored, removed (in many ways)
and the freedoms of speech/action have been thwarted. I cannot talk
about South Asia in general since the setup of the other countries in
the region are different but socially they are similar and have turned
similarly aggressive towards minorities (with a venomous nationalism).

After reading your last response where you abmit there are such issues
everywhere I can say for sure that Neeraja feels the same, maybe you
both should get together and talk it over in person. I'll buy the chai
: )
