Despite the "winter advisory", we had another great meeting with much to be done this 
month!

SAPAC General Meeting - Feb 2, 2004 @ Coffee Chicago

Present: Neeraja, Dimple, Nilofer, Mary Ann, Sanji, Roshani, Sapna, Sadaf, Prateek, 
Ravi, Aparna

1) Voices Of Resistance 3 (VOR3)
- Next planning meeting 02/10/04  at 6:30 pm at Insight Arts (Southeast corner of 
Morse & Ashland in Roger's Park).
- This event addresses issues around South Asian diasporic identity through art 
(spoken word, video, visual etc.). It will be on March 6th from 7pm to 10pm at Insight 
Arts (located at Morse/Ashland) in Roger's Park. More info can be found on our website 
www.sapacchicago.org 
- Craig will have flyers and postcards by the end of the week
-Roshani has master list of who is doing what outreach.
- Neeraja and Sapna will work on media outreach/ press releases
- Aparna will compile all the places the "call for artists" has been sent
- Mary Ann, Sanji, and Roshani will solicit donations from Devon businesses (Nilofer 
will send 1-pager to them); Dimple to call Viceroy
- Mary Ann will put a program together a week before the event
- Everyone was assigned artists to contact
- Prateek will send us the revised "call for artists" flyer

2) SAPAC Fiscal Agent
- currently looking for a fiscal agent. Possibilities include Boston-based "Develop in 
Peace" and SAALT

3) Building Bridges (BB) event - SAPAC is one of the conveners of a broad 
Chicago-based coalition that addresses issues in South Asia.
- BB had its first event this past Saturday (Jan 31st) at the Indo American Center 
where Dr. Asghar Ali Engineer spoke about secularism and communal harmony in India. 
- Approximately 75 people showed up on this cold Saturday afternoon and participated 
in the discussion.

4) Third I - SAPAC is involved in the Chicago Chapter of Third I, which promotes South 
Asian independant film and media. Currently planning to do 6 events/year.
- Neeraja and Aparna will work on the possibility of a Mallika Dutt event in April
- Monica Bhasin - working on an Anand Patwardhan event

5) World Social Forum - Several SAPAC members had the opportunity to attend the WSF in 
Mumbai in Jan. 
-Nilofer spent time with the National Alliance of People's Movements in which they 
took her on a tour of various projects around India (e.g. Narmada Project).
- Potential of having SAPAC connect with this alliance and send people to participate 
in a similar tour 
- Potential SAPAC event: A talk given by those who participated in this tour. This 
talk would also be good for student groups.
- At the WSF, there was talk of creating an Internation South Asian diasporic network. 
SAPAC will have a member on the steering committee for this project.

6) SAAN conference - several SAPAC members attended the South Asian Awareness Network 
conference in Ann Arbor, MI this past weekend.
- Look for an e-mail on the conference proceedings

7) CLP - Several SAPAC members were accepted into Leadership Center for Asian Pacific 
American's "Community Leadership Program" - a six month long course designed to 
educate its participants about the Asian American community in Chicago

8) UIC's South Asian Progressive Collective is holding a Patriot Act Forum this 
Wednesday (4th). For more information, contact Raj Shah ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) 

9) "Racial Justice 911: People of color against the war" is holding a planning meeting 
Wed Feb 4th at Video Machete (1180 N Milwaukee) to plan for their first Midwest 
Regional meeting (Feb 28th). Website www.racialjustice911.org . For more information
