You probably have installed "1.0 pre" release, surely not 1.0 Working on the new pre-release version usually starts the next day after finishing the previous final version. After 0.9.0 it was not clear if the next release should be major release 1.0-pre or minor 0.9.1-pre. It was later switched from 1.0-pre to 0.9.1-pre after several months of development.
Between 0.9 and current 0.9.2-pre have not been so big changes, that they broke something which required many fixes. Typically things were fixed, which were evenso good or bad in the previous "stable" version. It is sure, that you would need to use South for upgrading your existing database. I am writing time by time a script which should simplify it. If you want to upgrade now, I can write siplified custom guide for your exact initial version.
