Or taking advantage of plummeting land prices in places like Detroit, to buy up multiple plots and building small viable communities? When a plot of land can cost you as little as 150 dollars, and you and your friends can fill a couple city blocks, do you care if you're in the slums? But really that's all about what's possible with cheap land. There's cheap land in western washington as well. And if your house itself is a small price, there's a number of interesting things you can build.
